NEWS

Black Box has received final determination from the IRS and is now a fully approved 501c3, classified as a public charity with public charity status 170b) (1) (A) (vi)! Congratulations to all the Board Members, Program Curators and Volunteers who have worked so hard to make this happen!

The Black Box welcomes two new curators, Deirdre Verdolino and Marnie Lister. Deirdre will lead the Jersey Shore Writer's Workshop, and Marnie will run the Black Box's Film Forum.

ABOUT US

Black Box was founded in the year 2000 by a diverse group of area artists and residents committed to the multi-cultural revitalization of Asbury Park through the arts.

Black Box is a multi cultural arts incubator dedicated to the talented synergistic creativity between artists of all artistic genres and mediums.

Black Box supports the evolution of projects and collaborations not possible under the constraints of regular commercial theatre. We believe that the performing and visual arts provide a powerful method for bringing renewed vitality to the City of Asbury ParK.

Programs include Arts Education Outreach and programs in Senior Centers bringing art and community together. Black Box of Asbury Park is expanding its "Art's Partner" outreach to several different locations around the Jersey Shore while seeking a permanent home.

Black Box productions have been featured in the NYC Fringe Festival, The Players Club NYC, Gramercy Park NYC, Rheinbeck Playhouse NY, 78th St. Theatre Lab NYC, and Philadelphia’s society Hill Playhouse.

Over 382 individual artists, musicians, actors, writers & over 150 performing arts groups& jazz ensembles have been presented or premiered at the Black Box.

Arts Education in Asbury Park Schools with our Early Childhood Music, Creative Dramatics programs & featured Teen Arts Programming; touching the lives of children, building community through the arts.

Appeared at the ‘Invitation only’ Samuel French One-Act Play Festival NYC with our Production of Emmy Award Winning Artist Midge Guerrera’s “Annarita”.

Collaborated with Monmouth County Arts Council & Asbury Park UEZ on the development of the Asbury Park Cultural Arts Plan through a grant from the NJ State Council on the Arts.

Black Box & Jazz Arts Project together with the Joyful Noise Café sponsored & created the first new Jazz Series on the west side of Asbury Park.

Monmouth County Art Council chose Black Box to collaborate on a Community Arts Project with world renowned African American Artist Willie Cole on an interactive artistic structure – “The House of Books”.

Black Box & Montclaire State University NJ collaborated to present the world famous Harry Parch Ensemble at our monthly Music of Invention series.

Provided 8 Years of uninterrupted arts programming in Asbury Park with our; Independent Film Forums, Out Art Series, Annual Women’s Arts Festival, Music of Invention series, Poetry, Visual Arts & More!
